Description

A sketch done during dinner, that I scanned and finished on computer.
Sapphiresenthiss in the early morning, looking over her and elven kingdom - green, full of life wild mountains.
Not that hard to guess why they call her the Queen, huh? ;)

Most of the time when one imagines a dragon, itโ€™s depicted as either a fearsome beast with an appetite to cause destruction, but this does not travel that path. I shall be dividing my critique into a few fragments to make it easier to read.
First of all, the emotions that are shifted towards me. Iโ€™m not hit by emotions outright when staring at this to be honest, they creep in slowly, growing larger the more I stare. A pleasant feeling of security, calmness and warmth now nestling inside my hollow chest, borrowing in deep. Not a grand emotional baggage, but a good one altogether, not flooding me with complex mentalities and allowing me to digest the image for what it is.
Next comes the dragon itself. Well executed and donning scales that simply make me want to reach out and feel them. This dragon has however two focal points that my eyes are latched to, the eyes and the wings. The eyes simply wrap a chain of pride, self-esteem and optimism around my vision, dragging it towards them and holding it there. The wings donโ€™t do that however, they bring my mind along with my eyes. The membrane seems too transparent, appearing thin and weak, something which would render this beast unable to fly. It may be just me, but I feel that a more opaque membrane wouldโ€™ve served better, nevertheless the wings as appealing as the dragon itself.
Now, the posture. Maybe itโ€™s my bleeding eyes, but staring it down I can see it lift and move. It may look static, but this creature is dynamic, the smoke bellowing from its nostrils a clear sign. Itโ€™s not embedded into my mind, allowing me to visualize it mid air as I close my eyes.
In the end I think that this is a well done depiction of a mythical creature with a soft emotional basket and a well chosen, even if generic, pose.
